Its history is inseparably connected to the lumber and ship building industries on the North Shore of Burrard Inlet, as well as ferry crossings connecting the area to Downtown Vancouver.

Suburban Area Upper Lonsdale is a suburban area in both the City and District of North Vancouver. Upper Lonsdale is the more residential part of Lonsdale Avenue, although it does have a few blocks of shops and services.
